Fighting Stress

Why shingles develops in some people and never does in other people remains a mystery. However, there does seem to be some correlation between the disease and an already compromised immune system.
Shingles occurs when the dormant chickenpox virus becomes active again. So if you have not had chickenpox you are not at risk for shingles and most people who have chickenpox do not develop this illness. The condition is characterized by inflammation, rashes and blisters, and it can be very painful.

So what does this have to do with stress? Basically, stress can weaken the immune system and make you vulnerable for a multitude of illnesses. Once your body’s ability to fend off attack is compromised, you should be even more concerned if you already have health problems. Rather than treating the effects of this added pressure, you are better served to rid yourself of some of those things in your life that “get on your nerves.”

To achieve this goal, identify what is causing the problems and look for ways to alter your life accordingly. In general, exercise is a great way to burn off anxiety. If you are not a person who enjoys running and you find lifting weights monotonous, find a sport or activity that you enjoy. This way you will be having so much fun that you are more likely to continue the activity rather than giving it up after a short stint. Walking can be a good starting point.

Meditation is a popular means of relaxing. There are many methods of this exercise and you can find plenty of literature on the subject in a library, a book store or online. This process is a way for you to relax your mind and body by focusing on the moment and not allowing your mind to settle on work, family concerns or chores you have to complete.
Relieve the stress and live a happy healthier life.
