Are Shingles Considered Contagious?

Are Shingles contagious? There is a few times that thy are contagious to other people, only if they have not been exposed to this common virus. A person with this condition rash can pass the virus to someone, usually a child, who has never had chickenpox, but the child will develop chickenpox, not shingles.

The child must also come into direct contact with the open sores of the shingles rash to contract the virus, known as varicella zoster (VZV). They are not contagious amongst adults who have already had this common affliction in childhood. The later VZV is contracted, the worse the outbreak will be.

Many people have received a vaccine against it to help prevent future outbreaks. Also, there are some treatments that you can use to help prevent it from being contagious, which will help prevent you spreading it to another person.

Remember, you might not think you are contagious to other people, but would you want to really give someone else? It occurs when an unknown trigger causes the VZV virus hiding inside the person’s body to become activated after being dormant. Unlike chickenpox, this condition can’t be “caught” from someone else.

The treatments can offer some relief from the pain associated with this condition and can help recover from the outbreak of it faster. There are many treatments if you do get it, however if you aren’t sure if you have it, the best method is to stay away from other people during an outbreak.
